F1 "hopefuls" need to find a new hobby
No, I am not talking about young drivers who are trying to make their debut in Formula 1. This message goes out to the likes of Nick Heidfeld, Adrian Sutil, Rubens Barichello, etc. Every day I see a new article about one of these drivers who was ousted since last season, and are trying to still get a drive. These drivers need to look at their situation. Adrian Sutil is facing serious criminal charges, Barichello is really quite old (and has never won a championship), and Heidfeld has also been around for quite awhile. Now I am not saying these drivers don't deserve drives, or that they are lacking talent, but teams aren't going to be looking for them when there is a large selection of fresh meat waiting everywhere to be picked. Be honest, would you rather see how Michael Schumacher or Jean Eric-Vergne perform in 2012? Michael's heyday was many moons ago, and we are now in an era of Vettel and Alonso. One of the latest stories I read said that Mercedes wants to sign Schumacher to race after his contract this season. What? He's 43 years old! Now I don't believe that F1 has to be a young mans game, but contract extensions after 40 years of age seems a little ridiculous. Personally I think Mercedes wants to keep their all German drivers streak going after signing a long term contract with Nico Rosberg (who's actually Finnish according to his Finnish father, Keke, who was actually born in Sweden). All in all I know it is difficult to accept the fact that your an old and crippled F1 driver, but eventually your going to have to face the music and find other ventures. I don't think any of the drivers mentioned here will have much difficulty finding drives in other racing series, even if they don't provide the glamor that F1 does. Look at it this way all you dried up has-been F1 drivers, no longer do you have your every move watched by f1 reporters and having your mug plastered all over the internet whenever you run over a squirrel or don't say "excuse me".
